Concert March 2017



Lori Antounian’s musical journey as Orchestra Conductor and Choir Director can be summarized as following:

  1. In 2005, at the age 19, Lori Antounian conducts for the first time a Chamber Orchestra at Concordia University, in Montreal.
  1. In April and May 2008, for 8 evenings, Lori conducted “Way Off Broadway Band” Orchestra in Montreal. The purpose of these evenings was to collect funds for the Children Hospitals and Children deseases’ Research Centers in Montreal.
  1. On December 11th 2008, Lori conducted the “D’un commun accord” Choir for Marie-Élaine Thibert, the famous Quebec singer’s Christmas Concert at Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal.
  1. On December 12th 2008, Lori conducted Polyphonic Choir of Mascouche for their Christmas Concert at Maison des Arts de Laval.
  1. On March 29th 2009, Lori conducted a special choir of 18 singers for the 50th anniversary of the Foundation of Sourp Hagop Apostolic Church, at St-Saviour Church of Greek Catholics in Montreal.
  1. On April 15th 2009, Lori conducted Concordia University’s Choir during the University’s Year End Concert at Loyola Chapel in Montreal.
  1. In May 2009, for the second consecutive year, for 8 evenings, Lori conducted “Way Off Broadway Band” Orchestra in Montreal.
  1. From March to June 2009, Lori was the Assistant-Director of F.A.C.E. Young Singers Choir at the F.A.C.E. Performing Arts and Music School in Montreal. On June 2nd 2009, Lori conducted part of the Year End Concert at their Auditorium.
  1. From September 2008 to February 2009, Lori Antounian conducted the “McGill University Savoy Society Choir” for the “Yeoman of the Guard” Opera of Gilbert and Sullivan in Montreal.
  1. On July 11th 2009, Lori performed for the first time with her new-founded Imperial Orchestra participating in a Benefit Concert for Ardak Kirakosyan, the famous Armenian soloist of KOHAR Choir, who was paralysed due to the fall of a lamp-stand on his back while helping 3 children in danger. This concert was held at Armenian Evangelical Church in Montreal.
  1. On July 25th 2009, the Imperial Orchestra conducted by Lori Antounian participated to EUROFEST Festival at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal in front of thousands of spectators.
  1. On November 22nd 2009, organized by the Armenian Catholic Community, Lori Antounian conducted her orchestra and the participation of the same Community Church’s Alemshah Choir in an important Concert commemorating the 260th anniversary of the Foundation of the Armenian Catholic Convent of Bzommar (Lebanon) and the 8th anniversary of the Beatification of the Blessed Martyr Mgr Ignace Maloyan. The Concert was held at St-Laurent Church in Montreal.

A couple of days prior to the Concert, Lori Antounian was interviewed by Radio-Canada’s program.

  1. On April 18th 2010, on the 30th anniversary of Pierre-Laporte High School’s Foundation of the Music Program, Lori conducted a concert with her Orchestra of 50 musicians and 175 singers, composed of her choir students. Many alumni students who have now become famous international artists also participated to the concert. Among the high attendance, local government representatives and elected officials as well as known orchestra conductors were present at this memorable event. The concert was held at the Saint-Laurent church in Montreal.
  1. On June 5th 2010, Lori had the initiative to organize a Benefit Concert assisting Rose-Marie Berberian, an Armenian artist-photographer, to help raise money for her cancer treatments. Lori conducted her Imperial Orchestra and 100 singers from the Pierre-Laporte High School, accompanied by famous instrumental and vocal soloists. This was also held at the Saint-Laurent church in Montreal.

During her trip to Rome on July 6th 2010, Lori was interviewed by the Radio Vatican’s Armenian program. That afternoon, she was interviewed by the Armenian program of the Vatican’s official television, TELEPACE.

During her trip to Lebanon on July 23rd 2010, Lori Antounian was interviewed by the Armenian Lebanese Radio and Television stations.

  1. On February 26th 2011, Lori conducted her Imperial Orchestra, her Imperial Choir and the Shar-Agan Choir in a Spiritual Concert organized by the Armenian Apostolic Sourp Hagop church at the Saint-Maron Church in Montreal. This evening marked the first time in history that Armenian spiritual canticles (sharagans) were conducted by an orchestra in the presence of over a 1,000 people. Participated to this Concert famous soloists Elie Berberian (Tenor) and Arminé Kassabian (Soprano).
  1. On April 9th 2011, Lori conducted a Benefit Concert for the Pierre-Laporte High School’s music program. This event took place at the First Evangelical Armenian church in Montreal where over a 150 singers and students participated along with the Imperial Orchestra.
  1. On May 7th 2011, Lori’s Imperial Orchestra accompanied ARA GEVORGYAN and his ensemble in a great concert held at Université de Montreal’s CEPSUM arena. Lori had the honour to conduct one of Ara Gevorgyan’s most famous works, ARTSAKH, which she conducted with great success in front of 2,500 spectators. This Concert was organized by Hamzkayin Cultural Association of Montreal.
  1. On May 13th 2011, Lori Antounian was invited by ARA GEVORGYAN to conduct ARTSAKH during his concert at the ROY THOMPSON HALL in Toronto. She conducted the SINFONIA TORONTO Orchestra in front of 2,400 spectators. This Concert was organized by Hamazkayin Cultural Association of Toronto.
  1. On October 9th, 2011, Lori Antounian, once again invited by Ara Gevorgyan, directed the Buenos Aires Municipality’s Symphony Orchestra and Ara Gevorgyan’s Armenian folkloric instruments’ Band, for the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Argentina’s Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU). This memorable Concert took place on Avenida de Majo, the main boulevard of Buenos Aires City, behind the Presidential Palace. Over 15,000 people attended this big concert in which took part four Armenian dance groups. This great event was reported in the media all around the world.
  1. On October 13th, 2011, Lori Antounian directed the Cordoba Metropolitan Symphonic Orchestra and Ara Gevorgyan’s Armenian Folkloric instruments’ Band, in the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Argentina’s Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU). This memorable Concert took place at the «Quality Hall» in the presence of over 1,500 people and the participation of two Armenian dance groups. This concert was reported around the world, from Argentinean to Montreal Media.
  1. On November 16th, 2013, Lori Antounian directed her Imperial Orchestra for an unforgettable and great Benefit Concert, organized by and for HAMAHAYGAGAN HIMNATRAM benevolent Armenian Association, for its humanitarian projects in Armenia. This concert was held in the Armenian Evangelical Church, Montreal. Took part to the concert, apart the 37 musicians of Imperial Orchestra, barytone Clayton Kennedy and pianist Khachatur Ghazaryan. In the program: classical music, Quebec composers, Lori Antounian’s, Komitas’ and Aram Khachaturian’s famous compositions.
